Tomatillo, also called Mexican tomato, belongs to the Physalis family. The fruits grow and ripen in decorative lanterns with a diameter of 3 - 5 cm. Pleasantly spicy taste, when fully ripe the fruits turn yellow and are moderately sweet. Tomatillos can be used as a basis for salsa sauces and chutneys. The plants reach a height of 1 - 2 meters.
