The sneezeweed, scientifically known as Helenium hybridum, is a perennial plant in the daisy family (Asteraceae). It is particularly valued for its bright flowers and long flowering period.

Characteristics:
Growth form: Helenium hybridum reaches a height of about 60 to 120 cm. The plants have an upright growth and often form dense stands.

Leaves: The leaves are lanceolate to oval, green and can have serrated edges. They grow alternately on the stem and are usually rough-haired.

Flowers: The flowers appear in large, radial basket inflorescences that typically bloom in various shades of yellow. The flowering period is from July to October. The flowers attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Location and care:
Light: Sneezeweed prefers sunny locations, but can also thrive in slightly shady areas.

Soil: They thrive best in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. A humus-rich soil is ideal.

Watering: During the growing season, the plants require regular watering but should not be left standing in water. Consistent moisture is important.

Propagation:
Propagation is by seed or by division of the rootstocks. Sowing can be done in spring, while division can be done in autumn or early spring.

Uses:
Ornamental: Due to its attractive flowers, sneezeweed is often used as an ornamental plant in gardens. It is well suited to perennial beds, borders and as a cut flower.

Pollinator friendly: Helenium hybridum attracts pollinators and is therefore a valuable plant for natural gardens.
