Origin and appearance The passion fruit originally comes from Central and South America, but is now cultivated worldwide in the (sub)tropics. The round or oval fruits have a smooth, waxy skin that can be dark purple, green-yellow or orange depending on the variety.
Inside there are numerous seeds that are surrounded by jelly-like, green-yellowish pulp that tastes sweet and sour at the same time and is reminiscent of lemon. The most common variety in our country is the purple granadilla, which is mainly imported from Africa. Other varieties such as the passion fruit (yellow passion fruit) are mainly used for industrial juice production; the aromatic-sweet granadilla is rarely found in stores here.
This is what the passion fruit contains In addition to its excellent taste, the passion fruit has a lot more to offer: It is very rich in vitamin A, vitamin C and B vitamins, making it a real power fruit. The fruits are also said to lower blood pressure and promote sleep.
