Okra pods - power vegetables for the intestines Anyone who regularly enjoys okra pods is obviously doing their intestines a big favor. The green vegetable not only proves itself as a wonderful ingredient in the kitchen, but also unfolds its health-promoting powers as a valued medicinal plant. What is really true about this miracle vegetable? What are okra pods? Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) is an annual plant that, like hibiscus, belongs to the mallow family. The bushes, which can grow up to 2.50 m tall, bear beautiful large yellow flowers with a purple interior. The finger-like capsule fruits develop from these. They are harvested shortly after flowering, i.e. unripe, and are then 10 to 20 cm long. They are called okra pods. Inside them are small, soft seeds. Their mild, slightly bitter and not very sour taste is a little reminiscent of beans. Okra pods are a staple of the menu in many southern countries. In Southeast Asia, the vegetable is called ladies' fingers because of its shape. The plant came to Germany with the Turkish and Greek guest workers at the latest and is also known here under the name vegetable marshmallow. 10 seeds available
