The original beef tomato 'Ochsenherz' is a very old variety that probably has its origins in Russia. At the beginning of the 20th century, Russian emigrants brought plant seeds from there to the USA, where the tomato is still widely grown today. Other main growing countries are Italy and France, because the climatic conditions there allow the large fruits to ripen particularly aromatically.
