SUGAR SWEET FRUITCherimoya: How the tropical plant thrives at home
Annona, cream or sugar apple; bot. Annona cherimola
The cherimoya likes it warm, frost is not for it. But the tropical fruit also thrives in pots here. Its fruits are known as sugar or cream apples and are grown in South America, Portugal or Spain.
SHARE Creamy and soft, sweet and fruity, with a taste reminiscent of pears or bananas - this is how the flesh of the cherimoya is often described. The fruit, also known as the cream apple, has a distinctive taste. Both the flesh and the peel are edible. The cherimoya originally comes from South America. But it is also grown in Portugal, Italy, the Canary Islands, mainland Spain and Madeira.
Growing cherimoya in a pot at home Important: Temperatures should not fall below 12 to 15 degrees in winter so that the tropical plant feels comfortable. Both fully grown, grafted trees and seeds are now available for purchase in stores. The fruits are not available everywhere - here they are considered an exotic winter fruit. If you eat a cherimoya, you can simply save the seeds. If you plant it in a pot in permeable soil, with a bit of luck a new tree will grow from it. However, it can take several weeks to months for the seeds to germinate.
